The definition of event in a segment page

I have a question about the definition of event in segment.

In the Event Filters section,

  • if I set A & B events and these events need to “in this order” and “cross the same session”. The total event is 2,000
  • If I set only A event, the total event is 1,000

→ What does the mean of event in here ?
→ What is the difference between sessions and events ?

Hey @Sandy, thanks for reaching out! I’d be happy to share some insight into Sessions vs. Events in Segments. 😊

A Session is a series of user interactions on your site. The session begins when a user visits your site and it ends after 30 minutes of inactivity (or 24 hours of active session capture).

An Event is any interaction a user has with your website. The events are the specific actions a user took within that session.

The total number of events you’re seeing is the number of times these particular actions were taken. In the scenario you’ve shared, the results are showing that more events occurred within the first series of events within that order, than with just the 1 event on its own.

I hope this answers your question Sandy! I’d be happy to provide a more specific answer for you, but I would have to know more information about what events you have put in place. Feel free to reply back with more details and I can take a closer look or have our Support team review this segment for you. 😄
